As social media expert Matt Navarra shared, Meta is offering some prominent creators in its other apps up to $5,000 to post on Threads. If they get more than 10,000 views for a single post in the app, they could be eligible for a payout.
Threads is a social network similar to Twitter, where users can post short messages with photos and videos. Launched by Meta in 2023, Threads is available both in browser and mobile apps, which can be downloaded from Google Play and the App Store. To register, users need an Instagram account – it’s impossible to sign up without one.
Exclusive invite-only program
Some Threads users already achieve this level of engagement regularly, but the offer isn’t open to everyone. Meta’s documentation explains that the Threads bonus is an invite-only program. “If you are invited, you will receive a pop-up notification and an invite that appears in your Professional Dashboard on the Instagram app.” So, it’s only available to creators that Meta selects.
Presumably, these would be highly popular creators who haven’t yet started a Threads account.
Meta’s promotional push
This is the next step in Meta’s promotional push for Threads, which has also involved deals with celebrities and sports teams to boost interest.
Meta launched the initial stage of this new bonus program with selected users earlier this month, but it has now increased the payout amounts and the number of views per post required to qualify.
The hope is that this will help to fuel Threads’ growth momentum. Meta recently reported that Threads has gained 20 million users since February, taking it to 150 million monthly active users in total. While impressive, this is still a long way off from X’s 550 million MAU at present.
Can Meta beat it? Can Meta’s focus on a more positive experience, which includes moving away from politics and resisting real-time trends, actually create a more welcoming environment for Twitter cast-offs and other users seeking a real-time social media app?
We can hope this app has a great future if big names would be involved and bring their followers along.
Meanwhile, nobody knows will that be enough to beat the competition? We’ll see. One thing’s for sure: Meta’s serious about making Threads a big player in social media.
